Misa is an outstanding massage therapist in the Chicago-land area and I’ve been going to her for years. I’ve been to a many others before her, but you can really tell a difference between a really good professional and a bad one. I have recommended her to several friends and they all are repeat customers. Thanks Misa!

This has been hands down by far one of the best massages I’ve experienced. I’ve been going to Misa for over 8 years. She has been doing this for years and you can tell. She is strong and very thorough in her work. She knows exactly what places to go after if I’m having any problems. If you think your massage therapist is good, he/she won’t compare to Misa.

Misa was referred to me by one of my friends who was pregnant and also by her husband that was having shoulder issues since he is an active tennis player. I went to her for my lower back muscle problems and just general stress relief. I have been to many “high-end” spas and massage places but Misa has been by far one of the best. She has a ton of experience and knowledge so she can perform more than one type of therapy. I highly recommend her!

Misa is one of the best massage therapists that I have been to and have been going to her for over 10 years. I’ve been around the world and very few massage therapists really know what they are doing even at top spas/hotels. I highly recommend her!

Does Insurance Cover Massage Therapy?

Does Insurance Cover It?
- Original article Massage Therapy Author, Nora Brunner MA, APR
* Most chiropractic and physical-therapy treatments are reimbursed by health insurance, while more than 90 percent of massage therapy sessions are paid out of the client’s pocket.
* When it comes to receiving third-party insurance reimbursement, only 18 percent of ABMP practitioners do so. Almost all such work is related to disability or accident rehabilitation.
* The services of a massage therapist or bodywork professional may be covered by health insurance when prescribed by a chiropractor or osteopath. Therapies provided as part of a prescribed treatment by a physician or registered physical therapist are often covered.
* A number of health insurance plans now recognize massage by assembling networks of approved massage therapist providers. While few of these plans reimburse therapists for massage work, therapists provide their services to eligible clients for a 20 percent to 25 percent discount from their normal charge rates.
* Some therapists have strong feelings about how the profession is viewed and compensated by the insurance industry.
Insurance Reimbursement and the Profession of Massage
According to the ABMP 2007 Member Survey, just 14 percent of massage therapists and bodyworkers submit claims for insurance reimbursement for their services. Nearly all of this is related to disability or accident rehabilitation.
While most chiropractic and physical therapy treatments are reimbursed by health insurance, more than 90 percent of massage therapy sessions are paid out of the client’s own pocket. In some cases, massage is covered only when prescribed by a physician, registered physical therapist, chiropractor or osteopath.
A number of plans have tried to meet consumer demand for massage therapy without specifically assigning medical criteria to its use. Some have assembled networks of approved massage therapist providers who provide services to eligible clients discounted by 20 percent or 25 percent in return for the plans funneling clients their way.
To many practitioners, this is a source of frustration and indignation. Especially in comparison with other treatments, such as chiropractic care and physical therapy, they wonder why massage therapy is treated as a “second-class” modality. It seems to them that the possible preventive-medicine and pain-relief aspects of massage therapy present an opportunity for cost savings to insurance plans, as well as reduced discomfort to clients. Although the hard scientific data is still less than optimum, the existing studies and anecdotal information supporting the use of massage for such conditions as pain seem enough to these professionals to warrant coverage.

How to Choose a Good Massage Therapist
January 3, 2010 by admin
Massage a wonderful thing to do for yourself, but not all massage therapists are created equal. How can you find the best massage therapist? What can you do to make your massage session better?
-Original Article at ehow.com
Step 1
Word of mouth is the best way to find a massage therapist. Ask your friends, coworkers, chiropractor, hair stylist, anyone you know for recommendations. Discuss the kind of massage you’d like to get, and how you would like to feel at the end of the massage. Do you prefer deep pressure or a more relaxing massage? Do you prefer oil or lotion? Do you think you would prefer the more Asian pressure point style of massage or a more Western circulatory type massage? Find out who your friends recommend, but also why they like a specific therapist.
Step 2
Ask the massage therapist a lot of questions before scheduling an appointment. For accountability, a therapist should be appropriately licensed and should be a member of a professional association with a code of ethics and liability insurance.
Step 3
The therapist should be willing to tell you his or her educational background and experience. Therapists should have formal training in the massage techniques they practice. They should be able to tell you what techniques they use, what the purpose and effect of each technique is, and how many hours of training they have had in each technique.
Step 4
Visit the therapist’s office to see how it is organized and cleaned. Clutter, dust and dirt, and unpleasant odors indicate a less than clean and sanitary establishment. Ask to see the therapist’s intake form. Massage therapists should definitely ask questions about your health and keep a record of the discussion. There are some massage techniques that can cause harm when performed on the wrong person.
Step 5
When you schedule your massage, discuss your expectations with the therapist. Really try to communicate what you need, the kind of massage work you would like to experience, areas of pain or concern. Ask as many questions as you need to. The therapist can do a better job if he or she knows what you want and need. Feel free during the massage to ask the therapist to change what he or she is doing if it doesn’t seem to be what you asked for.
Step 6
Expect the therapist to show respect for your privacy. The therapist shouldn’t ask personal questions that don’t pertain to the massage itself. The therapist should leave when you undress or dress. The therapist should keep you modestly covered at all times. Your private areas, such as your genitals and for women your breasts, should never be exposed. It is absolutely unprofessional and illegal to do so and you should report any therapist who does so to the employer, the professional association and/or the licensing agency.
Step 7
Give your therapist feedback after the massage. Tell him or her what you liked, what seemed to work for you, and what you would like done differently next time. Communication and respect are important factors in developing a good relationship with your massage therapist.

A little History on Massage Therapy

Things you should know about Massage
An early indication of massage therapy can be found in Egypt. However, the healing value of this technique was first recognized by the Chinese sometime in 3000 BC. Massage was used as a form of meditation for soldiers returning from battle to help them relax after long stressful days. Herbalists have noted other benefits and have used this technique to heal other common ailments. They recommend oils to be used for reducing pain and can be used before or after bathing.
During the 18th and 19th century, massage therapy became immensely popular in Europe. A Swedish man known as Per Henrik Ling introduced the technique which he learned during his visit to China. He combined his own techniques with his newly learned Chinese techniques which became extremely popular. Medical professionals became enthusiastic about adopting this therapy. Today, modern massage therapy owes its existence to the traditional Swedish technique. People who complain about severe headaches can get relief with massage therapy. Very often, muscle tension and stress can trigger severe headaches.
